The Swan Hotel, Lavenham

The workshop takes place at The Swan hotel in Lavenham. Believed by many to be the most well preserved mediaeval village in England, Lavenham is situated about half an hour's drive to the west of Ipswich. (It is circled in blue at the top left of the map below.) The hotel dates from the fourteenth century and has been carefully modernised to retain much of its original architectural character.

Friday evening's reception will be hosted by Professor Peter Cochrane in Seckford Hall at Great Bealings, circled in blue at the top right of the map below. Ancestral home of the Seckford family for some five centuries, Seckford Hall was built in the mid-1500s on the site of an older Hall dating from 1489. The Hall is about fifteen minutes' drive northeast of Ipswich, close to BT Laboratories. Click here to visit Seckford's web pages.

The Swan hotel is situated in Lavenham, circled in blue at the top left of the map above. If you are driving to Lavenham by car, please note that the workshop is NOT TAKING PLACE IN THE SWAN PUB, MONKS ELEIGH. Monks Eleigh is just a few miles from Lavenham, and it's an easy mistake to make! A large parking area is available directly opposite the front of the Swan, down the turn next to the china shop. A smaller area is available behind the hotel. Seckford Hall, venue for Friday evening's reception hosted by Professor Peter Cochrane, is circled in blue at the top right of the map above.
